Pros And Cons Of Living On Or Near A Golf Course

Real Estate Blog

Golfers dream of living in golf course homes. They are so close to their favorite pastime that they can smell the greens just by opening the windows. Before you decide to invest in a new home on or near a golf course, consider the following pros and cons.

You Can Literally Walk out Your Door and onto the Course

This is the main selling point that you will hear from just about any real estate agent that sells golf course homes. Some of these homes require a slightly longer walk, but since you probably do a lot of walking playing your favorite sport, this is not a big deal. Being able to be that close to the golf greens and hear the quiet of golfers at play is ideal for both those that love the sport and those that love the quiet.

Privately-Owned Golf Carts Are a Perfectly Normal and Acceptable Means of Transportation

If you owned and drove a golf cart in the city, people might look at you strangely. However, when your home is on or near a golf course, it is totally normal and an acceptable means of transportation. Want to drive to the clubhouse on the opposite side of the course? Drive your cart and nobody bats an eyelash.

Golf Balls Through Your Windows

That is one potential problem with living so close to fellow golfers. There may be a golf ball through your bedroom (or kitchen or bathroom or living room) window in the future. Of course, that depends on just how close your home is to the nearest hole, and whether or not you get an excellent golfer swinging the hardest hit on a ball an amateur can hit.

Streams of Profanity

Some golfers do have quite a temper. If you have your windows open for fresh air, you may hear (once in a while!) a loud stream of profanity coming through on the air. Being a golfer yourself, you can probably overlook this, but if you have the grandkids over to visit, you probably do not want to hear that. You could always close the windows too, and still live the dream life in a golf course home.

Other Things to Consider

Golfers wandering onto your property looking for stray sliced balls and ricocheted balls is a possibility. You could put a high fence around your property and avoid this. You may also hear someone call from the other side of the fence for a ball, but if you regularly chuck the missing balls back over, the other golfers will be content.

Investment Property Purchases: What You Should Know

Once I paid of the mortgage on my house, I decided I wanted to buy an investment property. I had no idea that the buying process would be different, but it really was. There were so many things to consider that I hadn't thought about, and even the loan application process was different. It occurred to me that if I didn't know about it, others likely didn't either. I built this site to help others see what I went through buying my first investment home. I hope that it helps you to approach the process with more confidence and understanding.
