Tips For Bathroom Water Damage Repair And Prevention

Blog

Water is necessary for sustaining life, but the element can cause some serious damage especially if it is not contained. Repairing damages are also not cheap. In your homes, for instance, water can cause severe damage to your shower and necessitate that you get your bathroom renovated before the damage seeps through to your entire house or causes health issues. One way to prevent water from leaving your shower is to have a glass shower door installed. Another way is to have a functional weeping hole. These methods are fairly simple.

Glass Shower Door

Having a glass shower door as a protectant for your bathroom floor and your home. If your shower lacks proper drainage or a weep hole, water can travel outside of your shower and to the bathroom floor causing injury and damage to your tiles. It not only prevents water from escaping the shower but glass shower doors do not hold enough moisture to encourage the growth of mold. It is something you should seriously consider if you want to prevent water damage to your bathroom.

Sealing the Grout in the Shower

Grout is the cement-like mixture that is found between tiles. It is important for you maintaining a "good wall". If it is not sealed, water seeps under the tiles and over time seep into the wall. Grout is not waterproof so it is easy for water to get under the tiles when it is not sealed off. Epoxy grout is waterproof and you can try it if you redo your shower. You can even try the glass shower door option with a fiberglass shower so you wouldn't have to worry about sealing grout in the future.

Swap Out Drywall

A cement board is more durable than drywall. Drywall tends to accumulate moisture and swells. The grout cracks, the tiles raise and, in some instances, after enough is accumulated, you and your family are exposed to mold. Cement boards can hold moisture better, they do not swell, and they can be coated with a waterproof formula. The water has no way to go now, so it would fall to the ground and go through your drain pipe and out of your house. Cleaning your shower regularly is a good way to protect your bathroom from water damage.

Getting Professional Water Damage Services

A professional water damage control team can do a detailed job of scrubbing away mold, replacing saturated building materials, and sanitizing the area; it's worth having a professional come in at some point to ensure the damage is thoroughly treated.

Investment Property Purchases: What You Should Know

Once I paid of the mortgage on my house, I decided I wanted to buy an investment property. I had no idea that the buying process would be different, but it really was. There were so many things to consider that I hadn't thought about, and even the loan application process was different. It occurred to me that if I didn't know about it, others likely didn't either. I built this site to help others see what I went through buying my first investment home. I hope that it helps you to approach the process with more confidence and understanding.
